Buffalo Geological Society Field Trip to LaFarge Quarry in Lockport- July 24, 2016

Buffalo Geological Society Field Trip to LaFarge Quarry in Lockport, NY is July 24. Arrive by 7:30am, enter at 8am. Must be 18 or older.

Have GLOVES (new requirement), hard hats, steel toed shoes, eye protection and long pants. Gas powered saws and tools are NOT allowed.

Expect to find crystals of Calcite, Dolomite, Selenite, Sphalerite. Celestite and Fluorite also few fossils have been found.

The quarry is located at 400 Hinman Ave., Lockport, NY just south of the intersection of Rte. 93 and Rte 31

Buffalo Geological Society Live Auction is June 10 (moved from June 3) at 7:30pm at the Parkside Lutheran Church at Depew and Wallace Streets, Buffalo. There is a kids auction table with FANTASTIC deals for kids that are into rock collecting or want to be. GREAT FUN for EVERYONE!

Open to the public – bring your friends!

You are allowed to have FIVE (vs. previously four, then seven, now five)  items up for auction and you will get ALL the proceeds from the items. Sign in the master sheet, get auction slips and take to front table for display and to be auctioned.

Paleo Joe- Fossil Fish of Wyoming – May 20, 2016- Blasdell, NY

Penn Dixie is featuring Paleo Joe discussing the Fossil Fish of Wyoming on May 20 at 7pm at the Gateway Building Auditorium, 3556 Lake Shore Road, Blasdell. $5, free for members.

50 Million Years ago an ancient Lost Lake existed in what is now Southwestern Wyoming. Since it’s discovery in the 1870’s more that one million perfectly preserved fish have been recovered. Preserved with the fish in laminated limestone is a complete aquatic ecosystem including plants, insects, crustaceans (shrimp and crayfish) amphibians (frogs and a primitive salamander).
