Buffalo Geological Society Meeting – Jon Nickerson – February 5, 2016- Buffalo, NY

The Buffalo Geological Society Meeting on  February 5th will feature BGS member Jon Nickerson discussing “The Geology Cape Cod: A Condensed Version”.   Many of you may know of Cape Cod as a vacation destination famous for its sandy beaches and scenic light houses.  However, what you may not know is this peninsula’s place in North America’s geologic history.   Jon will discuss the Cape’s geologic formation, then present how it’s geology and geographic nature contribute to this land’s place in history, including its ties to New York State.  The presentation will consist of a blend of science, history, and features of human interest.

Jon grew up in Massachusetts, living north of Boston during the school year and living at his grandmother’s house on Cape Cod in the summer time.   He earned a B.S. in geology from Tufts University, then a M.S. in environmental science from Indiana University.  He moved to Buffalo in 1986 to take a position as a geologist and project manager with a local consulting environmental consulting company.  After 24 years in that field, Jon moved to National Grid where he us now an industrial energy efficiency consultant.
