Buffalo Geological Society Field Trip to Penfield, NY – May 6, 2017

Buffalo Geological Society Field Trip to Penfield, NY on May 6 at 6:30 am for safety talk, dig from 7am to Noon. Late arrivals are permitted but you must sign in and you can leave at any time.

Open to the public – you do not need to be a member of a rock club to attend. But, you need to drive to the maintenance garage to sign in.

Hard hats, steel toed shoes, long pants, and safety glasses required. Children are permitted to wear bicycle helmets and sturdy shoes (no sneakers). No sneakers for adults who must wear sturdy shoes if steel toed shoes not available.

You can bring gas powered saws, gloves are recommended as well as sledge hammers, rock hammers, chisels and pry bars.

Expect to find calcite, dolomite, selenite, fluorite, sphalerite, celestite and galena.

The quarry is located at 746 Whalen Road, Penfield NY.
