If you would like to join the Buffalo Geological Society, you can join for $15 as an individual or $20 as a family that offers the opportunity to learn more about fossils, minerals and lapidary as well as enjoy field trips, lectures, auctions and the club’s show in March at the Hamburg Fairgrounds. You do not have to have a geology degree…just an interest in crystals, fossils and lapidary.

Directions To Buffalo Geological Society Meetings

Buffalo Geological Society Meetings are held on the first Friday of the Month at 7:30pm from October through April featuring a speaker on a topic of geological interest. Meetings are held at a NEW LOCATION which is the Heritage Discovery Center, 100 Lee Street, Buffalo, NY 14210.

Buffalo Geological Society

The Buffalo Geological Society (BGS) encourages the study of Geological Sciences including minerals, fossils and lapidary arts as well  promoting education through exhibits, shows, lectures and field trips.

BGS was formed on February 2, 1938 as the Geological Section of the Buffalo Society of Natural Sciences. Dr. Irving. G. Reimann, Curator of Geology at the Buffalo Museum of Science was the first president.

Club Activities:

  • Monthly meetings featuring guest speakers (October thru April). Meetings are held at the Parkside Lutheran Church (side entrance) at Depew and Wallace Streets in Buffalo.
  • Club Sponsored field trips to local quarries, and streams. Once you join you will get emails on upcoming field trips (May- Sept).
  • Club Sponsored bus trips to places of interest.
  • Monthly newsletter to keep members up-to-date on our events as well as activities of other clubs.
  • Annual picnic and rock swap.
  • Annual Auction.
  • Holiday Potluck and Silent Auction.
  • Annual Gem, Mineral & Fossil Show at the Erie Cty Fairgrounds in Hamburg (generally same weekend as Plantastia)
  • Annual Banquet and installation of Officers.
  • Support of local educational organizations
